Fiji Macro: GIFT Method for Accurate Fiber Diameter Measurement

The Fiji-based macro, called GIFT (Generalized Image Fusion Technique), has been designed to provide an efficient and accurate way to measure the diameter of fibers in Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) images of electrospun materials. This user-friendly program offers a high degree of control over various parameters involved in the image processing steps, making it an ideal tool for researchers working with such materials.

One of the key features of the GIFT macro is its ability to process large data sets quickly and efficiently, producing results that are both reproducible and accurate. The program outputs both raw data and fiber diameter averages, allowing users to easily assess the results and conduct further analysis if desired.

The GIFT method is based on a validated algorithm that distinguishes fiber diameters based on distance frequencies within an image. This approach ensures that the measured diameters are reliable and consistent, even in cases where fibers may be partially overlapped or have varying levels of brightness.

In this work, we present the development and testing of the GIFT macro, which is freely available for use with ImageJ. The program has been designed to be easy to use, yet still offers advanced control over various parameters, making it accessible to researchers with varying levels of experience.
